Gutter GardenIf you take proper care for your home you would change your gutters every ten years or so. Instead of throwing the old ones out you can always give them a new life and transform them into beautiful flower pots. They have a very practical form for that purpose and it is really easy and fun activity. In the end you would have unique home made pots and you’ll have saved a penny in the process.

The idea is to hang the old gutters on the outside wall of the house or over a fence. Their shape make them suitable for the role and it is quite easy. You can then garden flowers, herbs or vegetables, the choice is all yours.

If you’ve already disassembled the old gutters, you’ve done the most. Try to preserve them as most as you can. After that just follow these four easy steps and you will have your new pots in no time.

  1. Firstly measure how much of the gutter’s length you’ll need. When you calculate it, get a hacksaw or a utility knife and simply cut. Be extra careful because they are rusty and if you cut yourself on the gutter you gotta go seek medical attention.
  2. After you are done with the cutting, drill holes for the brackets you will place the gutters with. You can also make some small holes on the bottom for a better drainage.
  3. Place the gutter in position and screw the brackets tightly. Make sure the construction is stable and it won’t fall down with extra weight.
  4. If everything is OK it is time to get your hands dirty and fill the gutters with soil.

And there, you have it. Four simple steps, some old steel and you have your lovely new flower pots that are unique and very quirky. And you can always boast yourself to your guests that you’ve done it all by yourselves.
